Twitter just served me this video of Zack Wheeler and his wife Nika prank calling Brandon Marsh while on TikTok live:
Transcribed:
MARSH: “Yo”
WHEELER: “Hey man. I just wanted to say goodnight.”
MARSH: “…Yeah?”
WHEELER: “Yeah, man.”
MARSH: …“Thanks, brother. Well, goodnight dog. I appreciate you calling.”
WHEELER: “Alright, man. See ya.”
MARSH: “You good?”
WHEELER: “Yeah. All good.”
(Zack hangs up)
(Zack and Nika Wheeler laugh hard)
NIKA: “He thinks you’re not mentally okay.”
WHEELER: “Yeah.”
(more laughter)
I’ve seen a bunch of different variations of this prank call on Instagram. Usually it’s a guy calling his friend, or calling his girlfriend’s brother, his girlfriend’s dad, or something like that. The biggest laugh is supposed to come from the reaction of the person receiving the call. The guy picking up the phone and being told “Goodnight” is supposed to act like whoever is making the call is acting insane and weird and emotional by calling and saying that late at night. They usually get weirded out, or mad, or yell at the person to never call them again with that sort of weird shit. The aggro, over-masculine reaction to being told “goodnight” on the phone by another guy is the joke.
But that’s not what happened here, and this version is much, much better. Brandon Marsh doesn’t get mad at all. It’s just the opposite – he seems so happy. Brandon sounds like he genuinely appreciates getting this “goodnight” call from his buddy Zack Wheeler. He thanks Zack for calling. You can hear how much he means it by the sound of his voice.
Then, as if the video wasn’t already wholesome enough, Brandon checks in on Zack by asking him if he’s good. For a moment there, he seems to realize, “Wait… Zack never calls me this late to say goodnight… maybe something is wrong…” He becomes worried about his friend Zack. He asks if he is doing okay. And Zack says yes. All is well. This is just two buddies saying goodnight to each other. Brandon accepts this, and the call ends on a nice, happy note.
This is what’s up. Hell yeah. The outcome of this video is great. I laughed hard watching it, and it’s also just a pleasant thing to see. Great stuff all around. A+. Let’s get more wholesome prank calls going. They’re usually pretty mean, come to think of it. Think this may be the only nice one I’ve ever seen. Makes it that much better.
