As mentioned earlier, Charlie Manuel was one of many local sports celebrities present at the Philadelpha Sports Writers Association Dinner last night. He was joined by Roy Halladay, Shane Victorino, Ruben Amaro, Elton Brand, Ian Laperriere, Rod Thorn, David Montgomery, Fran Dunphy, and many, many more.

There were a bunch awards given out- Stevie Why, who worked through the entire event while I was sucked down See-Throughs (Harry's word for G & Ts), has a recap and a story on Matt Hoffman – but the highlight of the night was Charlie's speech.

He's a jokestar.

"Most people think I was born in West Virginia. And I was. I was born in Norfolk, West Virginia. My Mom went through there in her car and that's where she supposedly had me.

You know they don't have Christmas plays in West Virginia, you know that? They cut it out. They couldn't find three wise men and a virgin."

After Charlie spoke, it was Joe Conklin's turn to take the stage. He did Charlie and Cole- hilarious.

That audio, and video of Charlie's speech, after the jump.
