Kapler was always linked to San Francisco because he worked with President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi in Los Angeles. Zaidi was the General Manager and Kap was Director of Player Development.
Zaidi told reporters last night via conference call that he received great feedback on Kapler:
Zaidi also spoke about Kapler’s tenure in Philadelphia, where he went 161-163 in two seasons and was fired last month. He said he spoke to Phillies players and members of the front office, and noted that he got unsolicited texts and phone calls from people who had worked with Kapler in Philadelphia.
“Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive,” Zaidi said.
I guess he didn’t talk to Angelo Cataldi.
The Phillies will see Gabe again in April in San Francisco, then they’ll host the Giants at Citizens Bank Park in August. I don’t know much about the Giants’ fan base, but Gabe is a California native and perhaps his uber-positive personality and peculiar communication methods will be better received out there. San Francisco is not the hard-working, blue collar, lunch pail type of city that Philadelphia is. Perhaps Gabe is just a better cultural fit in Cali.
Good morning.
