If You Graduate from this Small California High School and Pitch in the Major Leagues, You’re Guaranteed to Throw a No-Hitter

Wild stat from Michael Lorenzen’s no-hitter on Wednesday. Only four pitchers from Fullerton High School in California have pitched in The Show. All four have thrown no-hitters going all the way back to Walter Johnson in 1920:

That’s nuts! 103 years ago, the first one was thrown, and then last night Michael Lorenzen keeps the tradition going. Walter Johnson was one of the best pitchers of all-time and elected to the inaugural class of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Steven Busby got greedy and notched two in his career. Mike Warren, on the other hand, only got 27 career starts in the majors, but got his out of the way in his rookie year.

There’s something in the Fullerton water. This is witch craft. There’s only 140,000 people in the town and the school enrolls less than 2k. Could you imagine being the next pitcher from Fullerton to make it to the big leagues? Not only do you have to perform, but everyone is going to expect you to throw a no-hitter. It’s tradition at this point.

Also out of Fullerton High School? Keith Van Horne. They just produce great Philly athletes out there:
