In the Last Five Playoff Games, the Phillies Have Scored Two or Fewer Runs Four Times

Put it in the not-Louvre after the Phillies lost 7-2 to the Mets in game three of the NLDS:

Five hits, three of which took place in the late innings when they are already down big.

The Phillies had Sean Manaea cooked in the top of the sixth with two straight walks and no outs. Then Bryce Harper struck out swinging at some garbage out of the zone before Nick Castellanos lined into a double play. That was followed by a 1-2-3 seventh and Manaea, looking like the second coming of Sandy Koufax, needed just 13 pitches to get six outs after putting two runners on base.

Pathetic, they were,” as Yoda would say.  In the Phillies’ last five postseason games, which includes this entire series and games six and seven of the 2023 NLCS, they’ve scored a total of 14 runs, seven of which came in one game. In the other four, they scored one run, two runs, two runs, and two runs:

  • 2023 NLCS Game 6: Diamondbacks 5, Phillies 1
  • 2023 NLCS: Game 7: Diamondbacks 4, Phillies 2
  • 2024 NLDS Game 1: Mets 6, Phillies 2
  • 2024 NLDS Game 2: Phillies 7, Mets 6
  • 2024 NLDS Game 3: Mets 7, Phillies 2

Four of those five games were at Citizens Bank Park, to add some context. This year’s disappointment, by the way, coming from a team that was top five in the 2024 regular season in runs, hits, OPS, and batting average.
