“It Became Very Clear that I Wanted to be a Met,” Says Bo Bichette
The Mets on Wednesday acquired Luis Robert Jr. and held the Bo Bichette press conference:
You and I would be “open to doing anything” if we got $126 million over three years. Baseball, HVAC, ditch digging, carnival barking, you name it. Throw in the ability to opt out after years 1 and 2 and we’d be signing on the dotted line faster than you can say “Dombrowski.”
The real topic here is whether or not the Mets are going to be any good in 2026. They’ve turned over a lot of the roster. Gone are Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Diaz, Jeff McNeil, and half of that bullpen. They added Robert, Bichette, Marcus Semien, Luke Weaver, Jorge Polanco, and Devin Williams. Lots of moving parts who may or may not adapt well to a different setting. We’ll see, but the starting rotation is definitely not amazing. They’ve got Nolan McLean, David Peterson, Clay Holmes, Sean Manaea, and Kodai Senga. There’s some depth if the back-end remains healthy, but McLean doesn’t have a lot of experience and yet here he is at the top of the rotation in his second MLB season.
Not scared of the Mets, but they’ll be annoying like they always are.
