Jose Alvarado Reinstated from Restricted List

Phillies left-handed reliever Jose Alvarado has been activated from the restricted list and added back to the 26-man roster, announced ahead of Tuesday’s game.
Alvarado left the Phillies on May 18th for 80 games after testing positive for PEDs, specifically a weight-loss drug, after starting off his 2025 season with a 2.70 ERA and seven saves with 25 strikeouts. He began his rehab assignment back on August 7th, throwing five scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Although the Phillies won’t have Alvarado for the postseason, they add a big arm back to their bullpen for the division push. A bullpen that was dreadful at the beginning of the season now has a top four of Jhoan Duran, Alvarado, Orion Kerkering, and Matt Strahm.
The next month and a half will consist of Rob Thomson using Alvarado wherever he can. The Phillies need to get Strahm, Kerkering, and Tanner Banks off of their feet a little more than they have, as those three guys have taken down a ton of innings over the last three to four months.
Nolan Hoffman, who made his major league debut on Monday night, was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
