This insurance covers a player’s guaranteed salary if they’re injured in the tournament. You get hurt at the WBC and your MLB team is paid back by the insurer. Francisco Lindor and Carlos Correa were similarly denied.

Bummer that he can’t play, but, selfishly, it’ll be good to have Alvarado ready to go for the 2026 season. He pitched just 26 innings because of the 80-game suspension last year. If he can find any semblance of that 2022 and 2023 form, the Phillies bullpen will be in really good shape.

Phils in the WBC:

  • USA – Bryce Harper, Brad Keller, Kyle Schwarber
  • Israel – Max Lazar, Garrett Stubbs
  • Venezuela – Jesus Luzardo (reserve)
  • Italy – Aaron Nola
  • Dominican Republic – Cristopher Sanchez, Johan Rojas
  • Mexico – Cyjuan Walker
  • Panama – Edmundo Sosa
