The doctor who operated on Darren Daulton today spoke with the media this afternoon. He was able to remove BOTH tumors. One was more difficult to attend to because it was near Dutch’s speech portion of the brain. As such, he was numbed but awake during surgery so doctors could make sure not to damage parts of the brain were tied to speech and communication. They even asked Dutch sports questions while they operated to make sure his cognitive abilities remained.
It will take Dutch 3-4 weeks to recover from surgery, but he will likely need radiation therapy to prevent the tumors from growing back. He will also need speech therapy.
Dutch is currently alert and talking with friends and family. Good news.
