Long-Sleeved Jordan Montgomery Talks About Humidity After Losing at Home to Phillies

The Phillies beat the Arizona D-bags Thursday night 6-4 to extend a three-game winning streak and reclaim Major League Baseball’s best record.
They’re now 69-46 and eight games in front of the New York Mets, who jumped the sputtering Braves for second in the NL East.
After this game, Zona’s Jordan Montgomery talked about how humid it is inside Chase Field:
When asked how he felt as his start went on, Jordan Montgomery referenced the humidity inside Chase Field.
“It’s like pitching in a jungle here sometimes. I don’t know how it gets so humid, but I swear it’s less humid in St. Louis during the summer than here.” pic.twitter.com/om8JCAPlUM

Seems a little counterintuitive to talk about humidity when you’re on the mound wearing black long sleeves. Montgomery is also 6’6′” and almost 230 pounds, and if you’ve ever spent five seconds around a bigger guy, they will not hesitate to tell you how hot they are, whether they’re inside an air conditioned baseball stadium or sitting on the lanai.
That said, Montgomery wasn’t horrible last night. He threw five and two-thirds innings, gave up four runs on eight hits, walked three, and struck out four. He got through the first five innings without conceding a run at all, then the Phillies broke through in the sixth with a series of RBI from Weston Wilson, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper.
Montgomery does have much better road numbers than home numbers. He’s got an 8.14 home ERA over 45.1 innings and a 4.26 road ERA over 38 innings, so maybe there’s something to the Arizona environment. But the bigger story is Kolby Allard giving up just one run to a D-bags team that’s been raking as of late. That team has been getting by on their red-hot hitting and the pitching staff has been middle of the road in MLB.
