Mets Beat Phillies, Trade Marlon Byrd on Marlon Byrd Night

The Phillies lost to the Mets last night, 5-0. So there’s that. And then there’s the Mets trading Marlon Byrd just hours before Marlon Byrd t-shirt giveaway night. Behold:
Yeah, those never got handed out. FOX Sports reports that the team will give out the shirts after the season. To whom, exactly, we don’t know.
I can’t tell what’s worse– this, or the Phillies announcing Charlie Manuel’s firing (because they actually fired him two days earlier) on the night he was to be honored for his 1,000th win. I want to say the Byrd thing is worse, because the t-shirt giveaway was probably planned for some time. The Charlie thing was cobbled together in a week once he reached his milestone. Only the Mets would be dumb enough to print (apparently unsponsored) t-shirts and then render them useless before they were to be of use. That’s bad business, and bad business is part of the reason why the Mets were forced to trade Byrd, who, at 35, is suddenly having the best season of his career (…), in the first place.
The Mets, ladies and gentlemen.
