Well, well, well.

Here we are, 48 games into year one of Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765M deal with the New York Mets and a ton of their fans are already pissed off, the media is calling him miserable, and everyone thinks he wants to go back to the Yankees already.

It all really started a few weeks b ack, when Soto admitted that he’s being pitched to differently now that he doesn’t have “the best hitter in baseball” behind him. Think whatever you want about Pete Alonso, but that guy has been on a tear this year, so I think Soto will be alright with that guy behind him.

We then had the first Subway Series this past weekend, and Soto was all friendly with Aaron Boone, Jazz Chisholm, and Aaron Judge before the game, which Mets fans hated.

But the last two games seemed to be the breaking point for some. Soto didn’t run out a ground ball to 2nd base on Sunday Night Baseball, then crushed a ball that looked to be a home run over the green monster at Fenway and proceeded to look at it. The ball didn’t go out, and all Soto got out of it was a single.

Let’s check in on Frank the Tank from Barstool:

We had WFAN starting rumors that Soto doesn’t fly on the team plane to road series, which was debunked by Anthony DiComo and Jeff Passan:

The back page of Tuesday’s Post? “Juan Slo-Mo” –

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said he plans to speak with Soto about his hustle and effort the last few games.

We’ll talk to him about it. Tonight (Monday), obviously, if someone gets a hold of one and knows when he gets it, it’s Juan. He thought he had it. With the wind and all that, in this ballpark — anywhere, in any one, but particularly in this one with that wall right there — you’ve got to get out of the box. Yeah, we’ll discuss that.

The Cinderella story is over, and I can’t lie, it’s fantastic to watch unravel. Soto is going to be fine. It’s hilarious watching these lunatic New York fans be out on a Top 5 player in baseball 50 games into a 15-year contract. On the flipside, going back to the Bronx and showing that kind of effort isn’t a good way to prove to Queens that you’re here to stay. Now, we just need the Knicks to lose to really put the cherry on top of everything.
