Chase Utley was in the house on Thursday:

The Phils and Mets play a two game set in London on June 8th and 9th. Utley is the league’s ambassador in Europe and does all sorts of promotional stuff to help grow the game over there.

He was asked before Thursday’s matchup what he tells baseball newcomers about the Mets and his history with them:

“The thing about the UK in general is that their soccer, or football rivalries are pretty big and pretty aggressive. There’s not a love between the two sides, so I can kind of compare it to the big rivalries over there. Mets and Phillies rivalry, Yankees/Red Sox rivalry, it doesn’t get much bigger than that. I just say it’s gonna be a great game, it’s gonna be intense, it’s gonna be a fun atmosphere and just remember that these teams don’t necessarily love each other.”

Utley noted that it’s harder to keep track of the Phillies overseas, or at least watch the games live because of the time difference. For this series, the June 8th game will be a 1 p.m. local start, so 6 p.m. UK time. And the Sunday game, June 9th, will be 10 a.m. our time and 3 p.m. their time. The Premier League season will be over and there’s a lull in live sports in June over there, so that might put some more eyeballs on these games, which are being played at West Ham’s stadium.
