We already knew that lefty Matt Moore would go for the Phillies in Game 1 of today’s doubleheader against the Marlins down at Citizens Bank Park. Now we know the lineup that will back him up.
Phillies Game 1 lineup against the Marlins. Not exactly going “all-in” here, but it’s hot outside, so…
Segura 4
Miller 7
Harper 9
Hoskins 3
Gregorius 6
Jankowski 8
Knapp 2
Maton 5
Moore 1— Bob Wankel (@Bob_Wankel) July 16, 2021
This isn’t exactly the Phillies’ “all-in” lineup, but against tough Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara, manager Joe Girardi is giving both Andrew McCutchen and J.T. Realmuto the afternoon off.
Alcantara is 1-1 in two starts against the Phillies this season, allowing just two earned runs in 14 innings. The Phillies are hitting a collective .091 with a .348 OPS against him this season. Both numbers represent his best against any team.
In other news, the Phillies are still without Alec Bohm, Aaron Nola, and Connor Brogdon, but they will have Bailey Falter back for today’s games. The Phillies activated the left-hander from the COVID-related IL this afternoon and optioned reliever Damon Jones to Lehigh Valley.
As for Nola, there appears to be some encouraging news on his potential return:
Aaron Nola is on the field throwing. Just a guess, but because he hasn’t pitched in a while now the #Phillies are just working him back. Got to think he starts early next week.
