Phillies DFA Carlos Hernandez

Inbox:
Prior to today’s game against the Chicago Cubs, the Phillies recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Mercado from triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Carlos Hernández was designated for assignment.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Hernandez was a March waiver claim. He had a 5.26 ERA in 25 and two-thirds relief innings.
Mercado, FYI, has allowed 12 runs in 20.1 innings with the IronPigs, so not sure this is much of an improvement. Like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic until Dave Dombrowski can go dumpster diving for bullpen arms at the deadline.
Mercado blurb from the press release:
Mercado, 26, has gone 2-0 with two saves, a 5.31 ERA (12 ER, 20.1 IP) and 22 strikeouts to eight walks in 17 relief appearances with the IronPigs this season. He has posted a 2.08 ERA (3 ER, 13.0 IP) across his last eight outings since May 11 and has allowed one or zero earned runs in 14 of his appearances this year. Mercado made his major league debut with the Phillies last season and earned the win in his first career start on July 2 at Wrigley Field. Overall, he appeared in five games over two stints with the club in 2024. A native of Greenville, S.C., Mercado was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He was acquired by the Phillies from the Rays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Adam Leverett and cash considerations on Nov. 6, 2023.
