Ruffled Feathers as Phillies Fans and the Ghost Energy Guy Yell at Each Other on Twitter

This is a minor kerfuffle that was brought to our attention on social.

It begins with Phillies fan “Bad Pancake,” who jokingly says that the Phils’ skid was because of the Ghost Energy Deck taking over Harry the K’s. Then a second Phillies fan, “Paul,” tags the founder of Ghost Energy, Dan Lourenco, and tells him to fuck off:

Dan Lourenco responded, saying the following, then going private after. I’m assuming that Phillies fans started flooding his mentions:

This is a pretty easy one to litigate and I think it’s bordering nothing burger territory. I wasn’t sure this was even going to be a post, but let’s go through the tweet here and break it down:

• “your bullpen is ass” – This is true. The Phillies bullpen is, indeed, ass.
• “The Phillies were forced to change the name of the deck by Harrys (sic) estate” – Harry’s sons and widow have differing opinions on this, as Matt Breen outlined for the Inquirer. What’s important in this context is that whatever dispute took place between the Phillies and Harry’s estate, Ghost Energy wasn’t involved in that. It’s not like they came in and said ‘we are going to take over Harry the K’s, give us this spot.‘ It was ultimately a Phillies decision to rebrand that area and sell it to a corporate sponsor, so I think we all had come to a consensus of sorts many months ago, that even though the situation was kind of sad, this wasn’t some sinister and subversive act from Ghost.
• “my cofounder is a Philly kid” – This is true. Ryan Hughes is from West Chester and called WIP during this whole dispute to say the following: “We’re excited to not just take over the space, but pay homage to what Harry meant to this city. His name is not going to be forgotten (by us) or in our space. The name itself was not ours to claim obviously, and for me as a Philly kid born and raised in the area, it was important to me personally that if the space was going to change it was going to go to a brand with Philly roots.”
• “we invested to make the Bank better / you’re welcome” – This is debatable. Is CBP better? Dunno. But the Phils have more money now. John Middleton was very dismissive of the controversy and said the change brings in more cash for a team that has a huge payroll. Everybody needs money to pay players and we know that advertising is being shoved into every square inch of the ballpark. If there’s anything to be pissed off about, it’s this final sentence, with the guy talking down to us and saying we should be thanking him. To be 100% clear, we don’t give a fuck about you. You’re not from here. We’re cool with this Ryan Hughes guy, but you’re a Cubs fan and your company is headquartered in Las Vegas.

That’s pretty much it. This Dan Lourenco guy was justified in responding to the Phillies fans, who tagged him and said “fuck you.” He didn’t start it. And it wasn’t Ghost Energy that killed off Harry the K’s; that was a Phillies’ decision. But Lourenco is also being a pompous toolbag in the way he finishes that tweet.

The verdict: everybody should log off.
