The Phillies made a few roster moves before the series finale vs. the Marlins:
- Buddy Kennedy’s contract was selected from Lehigh Valley
- Weston Wilson was optioned to Triple-A
- Aaron Nola was transferred to the 60-day IL
The Phillies and Nola revealed on June 10th that he had a stress reaction in his right rib cage. Rob Thomson said that Nola wouldn’t throw a baseball until at least two weeks from that date. Nola was on “Phightin’ Words” with Anthony SanFilippo and Bob Wankel a few days ago, and said that he thinks it’ll be “two months or so” until he returns. He said he knows he’ll be back at some point this season, but the Phillies aren’t rushing the injury.
Weston Wilson, who impressed off of the bench in 2024, is heading down to AAA after a brutal few months. Wilson, who is supposed to be here to hit left-handed pitching, is slashing just .172/.294/.172 with a .467 OPS in 29 ABs against LHP this year.
You might remember Buddy Kennedy from the 2024 season. The 26-year-old New Jersey native has 8 homers, 40 RBIs, and 64 total hits in 2025 with Lehigh Valley, good for a .388 OBP and an .835 OPS.
Kennedy was DFA’d out of camp and not claimed off of waivers, and, luckily for the Phillies, returned to Triple-A. Now, he’ll be up on the bench in the major leagues again. According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Kennedy had recently exercised an upward mobility clause in his minor-league deal, which gives teams across the league the ability to sign him. The Phillies chose to promote him instead of lose him:
