Phillies Reportedly Among the 30 MLB Teams that Have Interest in Signing Bo Bichette
Jon Heyman reports that the Phils are interested in Bo Bichette:
The usual suspects. Yanks, Dodgers, Sox, etc. Anybody would “have interest” in a 27-year-old right-hander who hit .311 last season and was on the verge of winning it all with the Blue Jays. Bichette had a .923 OPS in the World Series with eight hits and six RBI. He walked four times and had an on-base percentage of .444.
Bichette earned about $16 million in 2025, his final arbitration year. That was a three-year run in which he made $33.6 million. He will command top dollar because he was one of the top 10 free agents on the market this winter.
If the Phillies do find a way to beat out all of these other teams and bring Bo home, you’d have to open a spot in the infield. Alec Bohm is probably the guy you’d like to replace. There are options, for instance, using Bryson Stott and Edmundo Sosa at third, moving Trea Turner to 2nd, and/or sticking somebody in one of the corner outfield spots. You’ve also got J.T. Realmuto and his righty bat out there, Harrison Bader remains a free agent, and they need to get off Nick Castellanos and his final year, so moving pieces, obviously, but you’d make it work for a guy like Bichette.
You take the temperature of Phillies fans and it seems like not a ton has changed. The fanbase was mostly positive about Kyle Schwarber’s return. Bryce Harper will be healthy and seems to be motivated by the “elite” comments from Dave Dombrowski. Adolis Garcia either hits the ball out of the park or strikes out a lot, or maybe both. Zack Wheeler will be back at some point, hopefully as his same, elite self. But going out and making another huge splash would really inject some juice into the portion of the base that thinks the Phils are going to be embarking upon another “run it back” season. They’re annoyed that the outfield isn’t good enough on paper and they’re feeling “Sixery,” which means they just want to be woken up when the playoffs begin.
Confidence meter in signing Bichette? Feels like a 3 or 4 out of 10. But you never know!
