Per them:

Nice honor for the late Halladay, who died in a plane crash a couple of years ago. He was survived by his wife and sons.

34 will be the seventh shirt retired by the Phils, who also made these numbers untouchable:

  • Mike Schmidt (#20)
  • Steve Carlton (#32)
  • Richie Ashburn (#1)
  • Robin Roberts (#36)
  • Jim Bunning (#14)
  • (and Jackie Robinson’s #42 is retired league-wide)

They’ve also honored Grover Cleveland Alexander and Chuck Klein, the former who played when numbers didn’t exist and the latter who wore a variety of numbers.

‘Doc’ only played four seasons in Philadelphia but quickly became a fan favorite and famously tossed a perfect game and postseason no-hitter. His #32 was retired by the Blue Jays.
