Proper Arachnology: Jhoan Duran Receives Updated Spider Graphics

One of the things that intuitive Phillies fans pointed out was that the spider used in Jhoan Duran’s entrance graphics was not a tarantula. That was problematic because the nickname is “Durantula,” a clever play-on-words. Yet the spider walking across the screen was some sort of black widow-looking thing, with the bulbous abdomen and lack of hair.
Taking the proper arachnology into account, the Phillies have now updated the graphics accordingly. You can see the comparison in the two videos:
There you go. Much better. That is a Tarantula.
Does it make you feel any better about the Phillies? No. Zack Wheeler had a blood clot removed and Aaron Nola was blown up in the third inning the other day. People are kind of bummed out about the Phils right now. But at least we’re using the proper spider graphics now, and you have to take the wins wherever you can find them.
