I was thinking maybe it was in reference to the DBacks planting their flag on the field or celebrating to Dreams & Nightmares in the locker room. Seems like it was actually about the way Topper used him.
I’ll tell you what the Phillies weren’t missing – another starter whose velocity diminished throughout the season, couldn’t throw strikes, or get out of the first inning unscathed. I didn’t love all of Topper’s moves, but the last thing we needed was another pitcher giving us an ulcer during an outing. In fan’s minds, the 2023 Phillies postseason was defined by wonky hitting and bullpen misfortune. In Taijuan Walker’s mind, the 2023 Phillies postseason will be defined by not pitching Taijuan Walker. He was a $72 million cheerleader during the playoffs for a reason.
