The Mets Continue to Raise the Bar for Shooting Yourself in the Foot

The New York Mets.

What an organization. Haven’t won diddly poo since 1986 and when they did get to the World Series on two occasions after that, managed to win two games and lose eight. They’re 13-16 this year and posted a .490 winning percentage during the 2010s.

They stink out loud, and here they are embarrassing themselves once again, via a private conversation that went out publicly via stream, with the general manager ripping MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.

Thing is, Van Wagenen isn’t wrong. Rob Manfred is quite possibly the worst commissioner in all of sports, completely out of touch with anything resembling reality. He stumbled through COVID and doesn’t know how to bring the game into the 21st Century, so do we really expect him to approach these boycotts and demonstrations with nuance and understanding?

Probably not.

Anyway, the Mets blamed Van Wagenen for blaming the wrong person, and sent out this series of statements:

In a statement from the league, Manfred explained that he has not suggested “any alternative form of protest” or attempted to “prevent players from expressing themselves.”

So people can believe whatever they want to believe, but again the Mets just look bad here. Grass is green, the sky is blue, and the Mets continue to embarrass themselves publicly.
