The Phillies might be having some issues moving Nick Castellanos, according to a report from Jim Bowden at The Athletic (with ads):

“The Rangers are listening on Corey Seager, the Diamondbacks on Ketel Marte and the Phillies are begging someone to take Nick Castellanos.”

The Athletic article has a ton of information from the Winter Meetings with the slightest blip sandwiched in there about the Nick Castellanos move, which is poetic for his time here if you think about it. You’d see blips of the star power he possessed throughout the season before he went cold for a month and pissed off fans with a postgame interview. It’s one of the weirdest careers I can imagine from a Philly athlete in my lifetime. A guy who embodied Philadelphia to the core one day and then the next he’d disparage the fans with a lackluster attitude after going 0-4. We had some amazing moments with him like the 2023 NLDS, the tragedy home runs, and his Scooby-Doo interview at the All-Star Game. Then there were other times where he’d swing at a pitch that was almost in the dugout or he’d call out fans for getting on the team like he did last October. It was never consistent with Castey, but man it was never boring either:

Now the Phillies are allegedly looking for anyone to take an aging DH cosplaying as a fielder in the last year of his deal coming off a season where he slashed 250/.294/.400 and his defense regressed. He also was benched by Rob Thomson in June after saying something apparently so horrifying teammates and coaches were “disgusted.” So yea no shit the Phillies are trying to get rid of this guy.

What an offseason for the Phillies, huh? Sure they re-signed Kyle Schwarber, but Dave Dombrowski has done little else. He also pissed off Bryce Harper, who is getting into junk science, and now he isn’t able to get rid of the right fielder for peanuts. Zack Wheeler is on the shelf, Ranger Suarez seems as good as gone, and Alec Bohm is still on this team! Get excited for your team, your town, your 2026 Phillies baby!!!

Obligatory 2026 Phillies starting lineup:

  • SS Trea Turner
  • RF Kyle Tucker
  • 1B Bryce Harper
  • DH Kyle Schwarber
  • C JT Realmuto
  • 2B Bryson Stott
  • 3B Aidan Miller
  • LF Dave Dombrowski’s Magical Chin Dimple Free Agent
  • CF Dave Dombrowski’s Magical Chin Dimple Free Agent/Justin Crawford
