Trey Yesavage Mowing Down the Yankees in the Playoffs is a Proud Moment for the Great Borough of Boyertown

That Eagles game sucked! Anyway, this happened:

5.1 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, one walk, and 11 strikeouts for Boyertown alum Trey Yesavage, who was pitching for the ECU Pirates less than two years ago.

It’s a pretty incredible story. The guy is still only 22 years old and didn’t get his major league callup until September 15th. The Jays handed him starts against Tampa (2x) and Kansas City, and he got through those with a 3.21 ERA. This was his fourth career start. Fourth! And he mowed down the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS. No big deal, right? Just sliding right into the rotation between Kevin Gausman and Shane Bieber like it’s nothing.

Where does this rank among great Boyertown athletic moments? Good question.

After this performance, he’s definitely on the Mount Rushmore, along with:

  • James Develin, who won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots
  • Nicole Barnhart, who played 54 games for the U.S. Women’s national soccer team and won two Olympic gold medals
  • Maggie Tamasitis, who was a 2x All-American for Notre Dame women’s lacrosse and still holds the program’s all-time assist record

Falling just outside of the top four, I think you have to consider Kevin Kinkead, who co-captained the 2002 soccer team to a 12-6-2 record and won all-Berks County honorable mention. Not the greatest season ever recorded, but we were picked to finish bottom half of the Pac-10 that year and those biased Pottstown Mercury writers had to eat shit after we qualified for district playoffs.

Go Bears!
