There was much more than that, I just can’t find it right now. Should have DVR’d the segment.
The television appearance felt… sleazy? Maybe sleazy isn’t the right word for it. Maybe churlish is a good word. Tom McCarthy and the other guys did their best to keep Rose on topic and ask some straightforward questions, but the guy just seems like a douche. Even if you take all of his various transgressions and put them off to the side, and strictly talk baseball, he retains this magical ability to sound like a creep. They were talking about the shift, for instance, and Rose just oozed of this holier-than-thou attitude. It was a generally unpleasant television segment.
But nobody should be surprised, right? Dude is 81 years old and came from a different era. Pete Rose presenting himself like a sleazeball was probably -350 or higher at the sports books going into this weekend. Hall of Fame baseball player, Hall of Fame doucher.
