Orioles beat reporter Brittany Ghiroli (their version of Todd Zolecki) reported that third base coach and former Phillie Juan Samuel skipped last week's organizational meetings and might be leaning towards taking a job with the Phillies.  [MLB.com]

…the sentiment is Samuel is leaning toward other options, which include joining Charlie Manuel's staff as Phillies first-base coach. Samuel is one of several candidates being considered for the position vacated by Davey Lopes, and given his ties to the Phillies organization as a player — as well as his experience as an outfield/baserunning instructor – it makes sense.

The Phillies have had conversations with Samuel, who is currently in the Dominican Republic, but no formal offer has been extended.

Samuel played for the Phillies from 1983-1989.  He also had one of the best names for Harry Kalas to say: Juuaann S-A-M-uel.
