Nick Castellanos blasted a three-run homer on Tuesday night then dropped another memorable quote:

“…my style of hitting, which is always like glorified batting practice, right? I don’t really have an approach. I look for the baseball and hit it as hard as I can. Having protection behind me usually forces the pitcher to throw to me more when there are people behind me. If I’m on, let’s say, like the cliff of the lineup where the power starts to drop off, now the approach is like, well, we don’t have to throw this guy a strike. that’s hard for me because I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the plate looking to walk.”

I look for the baseball and hit it as hard as I can” is right up there with the quote from his debut press conference, when he told us that he does not have a college degree and hits baseballs instead. Castellanos, of course, is the master of bluntness, and has delivered some wonderful lines over the last few seasons. When the Phils clinched a playoff berth last year, Tom McCarthy asked what Castellanos what he learned about himself, to which he replied, “not a damn thing.” He later said “yeah I fuck with Philly” on live television and there was that moment when responded with “where’s the question in that?” while Matt Winer was interviewing him on the field. A wordsmith, he is not, but that’s what makes Castellanos great.
