16 NBA Players COVID-19 Positive After First Round of Mandatory Testing

As we gear up for a July 30th NBA return in Orlando, the league is beginning with mandatory testing for all players, staffers, and other personnel who will be traveling to Florida. The first round took place earlier this week and resulted in 16 positive cases, according to ESPN:

“Those 16 players were part of a pool of 302 tested on Tuesday — a 5.3% rate of positive tests leaguewide.

Any player who tested positive will remain in self-isolation until he satisfies public health protocols for discontinuing isolation and has been cleared by a physician.”

If you started two weeks of isolation right now, July 10th would end the 14-day period. The NBA is allowing teams to arrive in Florida on July 7th and will hold training camp from the 9th to the 29th, leading up to the eight games that will precede the playoffs.

Some of the players who tested positive willingly made public that information, such as Alex Len, Jabari Parker, and Malcolm Brogdon. ESPN says the NBA did not reveal the non-player testing results.
