Al Horford Says He Was “Written Off” Before Returning to Boston

The Sixers lost to the Celtics on Wednesday night. Al Horford clamped Tobias Harris on the final play and the Sixers struggled to get a shot off.
Afterward, Horford provided this quote, which is circulating through the NBA world:
Al Horford on his time with the 76ers and now being back in Boston: “I was written off, and I’m just glad that I’ve got another opportunity in a place I want to be.” #Celtics #BleedGreen

Horford doesn’t mention specifically whether he was “written off” in Philadelphia, Boston, or during his brief time with Oklahoma City, where he was benched during the Thunder tank, prior to his Boston return. The quote itself is rather innocuous, and it seems like some people on Twitter are making more of it than necessary, but the bottom line is that Horford signed a four-year, $109 million dollar deal and didn’t play very well here. He was part of a clunky unit that didn’t mesh, and so when Daryl Morey took over, he attached a first-round draft pick to move Horford’s contract. The Sixers are better without Horford and Horford is better without the Sixers, so that’s a rare win/win in professional sports.
