Ben Simmons posted a triple-double in the Sixers’ Game 5, series-clinching win over the Washington Wizards.

It was a really good performance. He started as a small ball five in Joel Embiid’s absence and did what he does well – distribute the ball, play tough defense, and move his team in transition. He went 5-8 from the free throw line, an improvement over recent outings, and forced Scott Brooks to abandon a first-half “Hack-a-Simmons” routine.

Afterward, he went on Instagram and posted a photo where he’s sort of smirking at/mugging for the camera with a caption that reads “They love me. They love me not. They love me. They love me not.

The post was no big deal, just Simmons responding to the rollercoaster media attention he receives, but here comes Angelo Cataldi with the fake outrage:

It’s such a brilliant acting job from Angelo, who doesn’t believe a word of what he says. He can call Simmons a “jerk” and say “screw you” knowing that he’s never going to be at a Sixers game and will never have to speak to the guy. He’ll never have to be fair or objective because he’s a sports radio charlatan and not one of the media members tasked with keeping afloat some semblance of equitableness and respect. And 94 WIP doesn’t have the Sixers’ radio rights, so Angelo doesn’t have to worry about a phone call from the PR staff or upsetting any of the executive types who run the organization.

For the record, Rhea Hughes is correct when proclaiming this as “the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”

In the words of Megadeth, “Peace sells, but who’s buying?” The answer is nobody, so we package fake outrage instead and market it to people like Butch from Manayunk.
