“Black Lives Matter” Could Be Written on NBA Courts in Orlando

The NBA returns next month in Orlando, and in addition to perhaps allowing players to replace the name on their jersey with a personalized message, the league may also be putting a social justice message on the court itself.
The NBA and National Basketball Players Association are planning to paint “Black Lives Matter” on the court inside both sidelines in all three arenas the league will use at the Walt Disney World Resort when it resumes the 2019-20 season late next month in Orlando, Florida, league sources told ESPN.
The WNBA is also discussing painting “Black Lives Matter” on the court when it begins its abbreviated 2020 season at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, sources said.
In unrelated news, Brooklyn’s DeAndre Jordan opted out of the return to play after announcing he had tested positive for COVID-19. The Sixers do not play the Nets in the eight games prior to the playoffs, and while the two teams are currently the #6 and #7 seeds in the Eastern Conference, Philly is 8.5 games ahead of interim coach Jacque Vaughn’s team.
