Did We Really Go Through Seven Years of this Just to Offer 34 Year Old Paul George a Max Contract?

Alright it’s time to focus on next season:
“The player at the top of their list is Paul George.”@WindhorstESPN thinks the Sixers are going to give PG-13 a max contract offer in free agency, and will look to monitor Jimmy Butler and Brandon Ingram’s situations 👀 pic.twitter.com/bRVVY1XeeO

“His contract extension discussions with the Clippers have not led to an agreement, the Clippers are fighting for their playoff lives in Dallas, they have not wanted to offer a max contract… I think Philly is going to come out with a max offer to Paul George.”
Is this what it really comes down to? Seven straight seasons of failing to advance beyond the second round culminates with… a max contract for 34 year old Paul George? We went through all of the Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons, Bryan Colangelo, Al Horford, and Tobias Harris horse shit to settle on a trio of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and PG?
Listen, if you think about the fit, it does make a lot of sense. Paul George as a third player who can create his own shot and give you plus defense on the wing? That’s what Tobias Harris should have been providing for $39 million. But George is on the back end of his career, he’s had injuries, and his postseason resume is spotty. If this report came out five years ago, then yeah, sign me up, but in 2024 I feel only nothingness.
What’s sad is that Paul George might be the best free agent option out there. If Windhorst says we’re approaching the deal zone, then what? Build that Maxey/Embiid/PG trio and surround them with role players?
