Doc Rivers Reportedly Getting $40 Million to Lead the Bucks to the Second Round

Doc is out here getting paid. It’s incredible:
Sources: Doc Rivers is signing a contract through the 2026-27 season worth in the range of $40 million to be the Bucks’ head coach. Milwaukee is paying out former coaches Mike Budenholzer and Adrian Griffin, and now Rivers for next 3.5 years. pic.twitter.com/TJNafNFms9

On FanDuel TV, Shams said the deal is fully guaranteed with no options. It’s similar to your deal or my deal, if we were making 0.15% of the money and had no guarantees.
At this point, Doc Rivers is Mike McCarthy, is he not? Early 60s, won his ring more than 10 years ago, then proceeded to bow out of the playoffs early over the next decade-plus. Now they’re both surrounded by talent and still falling short of expectations. If there’s a better comparison, I’m all ears, but I think McCarthy and Doc is perfect. These guys wrote the book on doing less with more. Maybe Doc and Mike are Dave Roberts. Maybe Peter Laviolette, or, I dare say John Tortorella? Not ready for that conversation just yet.
