Doc had to go. He wasn’t the main reason they crashed out in the second round (again) this particular season, but he couldn’t take this team any further than Brett Brown, so that’ll pretty much wrap things up. Three straight conference semifinal exits and now it’s time for the next coach to give it a try.

Rivers’ best achievement here was… I guess getting Joel Embiid over the hump and to that next level. It’s hard to say how much credit he deserves there, because we’re not privy to those conversations and can’t quantify motivation or confidence level, but it’s indisputable that Embiid played his best basketball for Doc. He won MVP and was a 2x scoring champion under Doc. If only Rivers was able to impart some dawg in Joel, then maybe the Sixers would be gearing up for the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
