Five Sixers Make Washington Post’s Top-100 NBA Players

The Washington Post unveiled their list of the Top-100 players for this NBA season and writer Ben Golliver heaped some high praise on the Sixers’ starting five. With all five players in the Top-100, the Sixers are one of seven teams in the entire league and just one of three Eastern Conference squads to earn the distinction. They are also the only team in the league with four players in the Top-50.
Sixers
Golliver listed all five starters in the Top-64, including:
#7 Joel Embiid
“Embiid is so imposing, forceful and naturally gifted that there are many nights during an 82-game season in which he appears to be the game’s leading talent.”
#20 Ben Simmons
“Basketball Twitter is a funhouse mirror for Simmons.”
#24 Al Horford
“It’s fair to wonder whether Horford’s value will be more clear this season from his contributions to the Sixers or his absence from the Boston Celtics.”
#43 Tobias Harris
A midseason trade and an underwhelming postseason didn’t stop Harris from cashing in this summer.
#64 Josh Richardson
Richardson has slowly built himself into a player who is ready to step into the spotlight in Philadelphia.
Other Teams with Five Players in the Top-100
Golliver gave six other teams the distinction of having five Top-100 players:
Boston Celtics
- Kemba Walker (#25)
- Jayson Tatum (#46)
- Jaylen Brown (#59)
- Gordon Hayward (#68)
- Marcus Smart (#96)
Houston Rockets
- James Harden (#5)
- Russell Westbrook (#16)
- Clint Capela (#32)
- Eric Gordon (#65)
- PJ Tucker (#74)
Indiana Pacers
- Victor Oladipo (#38)
- Myles Turner (#44)
- Domantas Sabonis (#57)
- Malcolm Brogdon (#66)
- Jeremy Lamb (#93)
LA Clippers
- Kawhi Leonard (#1)
- Paul George (#10)
- Montrezl Harrell (#49)
- Lou Williams (#52)
- Patrick Beverley (#94)
San Antonio Spurs
- LaMarcus Aldridge (#18)
- DeMar DeRozan (#34)
- Dejounte Murray (#80)
- Rudy Gay (#97)
- Derrick White (#99)
Utah Jazz
- Rudy Gobert (#11)
- Mike Conley (#30)
- Donovan Mitchell (#33)
- Bojan Bogdonovic (#63)
- Joe Ingles (#78)
None of this is entirely surprising, but it does beg the question: If the Sixers have an incomparable level of talent in the their starting lineup, shouldn’t they be better than 8-5?
