For Whatever Reason, We’ve Got Bomani Jones vs. Sixers Fans in a Trolling Contest

As you know by now, the “Process” was just a well-executed tank, the goal to stockpile draft picks and other assets that would give the Sixers the best chance of landing generational talent en route to pulling themselves out of purgatory.
Yeah, the tank itself was extreme, and Sam Hinkie didn’t concern himself with the rough optics of the rebuild, but anybody who watched the Sixers from 2003 to 2012 would gladly look back in hindsight and take that one step backward in order to facilitate two steps forward.
With the Sixers claiming the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference this year, Bomani Jones popped up on Twitter, and apparently has been arguing with fans in a pseudo-relitigation of the Process, for the ten-thousandth time.
He says:
on the latest episode of #TheRightTime, i got a lil trolling from sixers fans. so i trolled back a little.

Some thoughts here, in chronological order:
“If you are part of (blank) Twitter, you are a dork”
Agreed.
“Y’all be doing this damn Process for eight years”
False. The Process ended when Sam Hinkie resigned back in 2016. Even though some of his players and assets carried into the future, the architect of the entire thing was no longer building the structure.
“You got (one) superstar and you got Ben Simmons”
Debatable. We’ll see how Simmons does in this postseason. There’s a large portion of people out there who think he has a lot to prove.
“I still think they might be better off if they had (Brandon) Ingram, just because he provides things Simmons does not, like the ability to shoot.”
Maybe. Ingram doesn’t pass or defend the way Simmons does, so the Sixers just built a team to accommodate the Ben/Joel pairing (just surround them with shooters). Brandon Ingram is really good but if you polled Philadelphia fans, I think you’d probably get a majority who would still roll with Simmons for the versatility he brings to the table.
“If you make the NBA Finals, I’ll take the L.”
There’s actually a large group of people out there who would be disappointed with anything but a championship. The idea that the Process is only justified with a ring.
Anyway, good talk. It’s fascinating how the Process is still a highly-debated topic even now, in 2021.
