Let’s start off the week with the Philadelphia 76ers. Jared McCain is launching a nail polish line:

“My own nail polish collection with Sally Hansen. It’s crazy to think that when I first started painting my nails that I’d be here, with my own collection, the colors that I made… this collection is called MVP and it stands for ‘most valuable polish.'”

The five colors are ‘bucket blue,’ ‘GOAT gold,’ ‘net neutral,’ ‘point guard pink,’ and ‘rookie red.’ You can buy it in a three pack. Sources say “Schuylkill River Barf Brown” did not make it past the brainstorming phase.

At the risk of burying the lede, some will say this makes Jared McCain “gay,” but isn’t that old news? Jared McCain was a nail-painting Tik Tok guy when the Sixers drafted him. The original reaction was some support for that, and some manly men who were against it, but it honestly seemed back then that the overwhelming portion of Sixers fans really did not care what the guy did as long as he busted his ass for the team and played well, showed the right attitude on the court and did his job, which is exactly what happened. McCain was on fire through mid-December, averaging 15 points a night while shooting 38.3% from three and enjoying a wildly successful rookie year before the meniscus tear. At that point, you didn’t hear anybody talking about TikTok or nail polish because he was hooping at a high level and putting himself in the ROTY conversation.

The other thing that people seem to forget is that Dennis Rodman painted his nails and dyed his hair and did all sorts of flamboyant things. There are photos of him wearing halter tops and Jerry Seinfeld-esque puffy shirts. But he also shagged Carmen Electra and was 7x NBA All-Defensive First Team, so nobody really seemed to care about any of that stuff back then, when he was grabbing 18 boards a night and battling with Karl Malone on the low block.

That seems to be the case with Jared McCain in Philly. Sixers fans generally trend younger and more progressive anyway, and you see that in the comments on social media. It’s interesting to go through the Twitter and TikTok replies, because you’d think the guy is getting killed, but that’s not really what’s happening.
