Jerry Colangelo Says Sixers and Commissioner Pleaded for Him to Help
By Kyle Scott
Published:

Jerry Colangelo went on 98.7 in Arizona today and was significantly more candid with them than he’s been with Philly media. Specifically, he told Mike Missanelli he did not speak with commissioner Adam Silver about taking the Sixers job and that he only talked to Harris: “I’m not a party to those discussions that Josh may have had with anyone in the NBA,” Colangelo said.
That’s not what he told the hosts in Arizona, where he lives, today [thanks to Jim on the transcribe]:
“When I get the call from the commissioner and a call from an owner asking, pleading for some help, it kinda got my attention. The more we spoke … because I was able to do it on my terms and conditions, predicated on my time availability, they made it very, very easy to say yes.”
More:
Colangelo on his son, Bryan, taking over Hinkie’s role, something that was reported to be a possibility earlier:
“There’s not the consideration right now of making any major changes. My role is as a senior advisor to the ownership … so I could be of significant help to them because I’ve been there, done that.”
Colangelo on meeting Brett Brown:
“As it relates to basketball, Coach Brown, who I’ve had respect for … when I walked in his office, he hugged me and said “Boy, do I need you,” it’s one of those things … I wanna help Sam Hinkie, he’s a very bright, analytical young guy. And that’s a great strength of his, but as I look around the organization I think there’s some tweaks to be done that could maybe help, and that’s the first step.”
Yeah, this is Colangelo’s show now… and by extension, the league’s.
