Joel Embiid tweeted this at 8:34 p.m. Thursday night:

2,019 quote tweets.

Most people thought it was some not-so-subliminal message directed at Ben Simmons, and who knows, maybe we had the Twitter version of a double entendre here, but Embiid was talking about the African Cup of Nations semifinal between his native Cameroon and Egypt.

Joel’s follow-up tweets:

8:35 p.m.Can’t believe we lost smh

8:40 p.m.Like How do you miss 4 penalties? Bruno would NEVER.

8:51 p.m.Had to stop watching in overtime cuz we took off but just watched it and I can’t believe my eyes… they were so badly taken

Cameroon is hosting the AFCON this year, and this game was being played in Joel’s home town of Yaounde, which is the capital. If I had to guess, maybe 1.4% of Americans can point to Yaounde on a map. But anyway, Cameroon and Egypt went nil nil into penalties, and Vincent Aboubakar (great player) hit the first penalty, then Cameroon went on to miss the next three in a row and they lost. Obviously then Joel was on the plane heading down to Dallas for Friday’s basketball game.

So that’s the Charmin soft tweet. He was talking about his home country blowing it on their home turf. Maybe he also thinks Ben Simmons is Charmin soft, but who knows.
