Nobody Enjoyed Watching the New-Look Sixers More Than Tom McGinnis

It feels good to have professional basketball back in Philadelphia. I wasn’t sure what to expect heading into the Sixers/Knicks season opener in Madison Square Garden, but I certainly wasn’t expecting a team with limited chemistry to play so well defensively, especially against the Knicks. But LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Joel Embiid played well enough for the first time ever together to grab a win and at least put somewhat of a damper on banner night.

That also means Sixers radio voice, Tom McGinnis, is back. And, man, did he have a night. While I’d urge you to listen to him for an entire broadcast, I can’t make a highlight video 3+ hours long. But, I did choose what I thought were the four best plays of the game, which translate into probably being the four best calls of the night.

  1. Jaylen Brown’s lob to LeBron followed by a steal ending in a LeBron bucket leading to a Knicks timeout
  2. Jaylen Brown drains a three as the third quarter ends
  3. Tyrese Maxey’s steal and slam with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter
  4. Jalen Brunson’s airball, leading to LeBron’s free throws and eventual Sixers win

(Note: basketball is probably the hardest sport to do these clips, so if I ever forget an important sequence, please let me know)

Here are those same plays as heard on the MSG Radio Network, or also known as Knicks radio.
