Scott O’Neil, who oversaw the Sixers as CEO of Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, is leaving the team after eight seasons.

He wrote a thank you note on Twitter this afternoon:

It’s long, but this part stands out:

“At times I said the wrong thing, did the wrong thing, and even tweeted the wrong thing, but we lived, we laughed, we learned, and we moved forward.”

Hinkie supporters will latch on to that. They’ll tell you that O’Neil never trusted the process, not once. But like I wrote earlier, what did you expect? The business guy wants to do one thing and while the GM wants to embark upon a comprehensive rebuild. Of course there’s going to be incongruity there. And you realize that O’Neil’s replacement is going to be another… business guy, right? Another person with the job of making money and selling season ticket packages and growing the brand and doing all of the necessary evil money things that everybody claims to hate, but knows are required to run a successful sports team and entertainment portfolio.

It’s the cycle of life.
