Seth Curry: Ben Simmons Does Not Have to Apologize to Anyone

Seth Curry doesn’t believe Ben Simmons has to apologize to anyone for how he handled his ending in Philadelphia:

After Thursday’s shootaround Seth Curry talked to ESPN’s Nick Friedell about Ben Simmons not ‘needing to clear the air’ with him after Danny Green’s comments on his Inside the Green Room podcast Wednesday:

“Business is business,” Curry told ESPN after Thursday’s shootaround. “I said from day [one], even when he was out early in the season, people were asking me if I feel like, if Ben comes back, should he apologize to us or whatever? I understand the business; he doesn’t need to apologize to anybody. When he’s on the court, I know he’s going to do his job and he’s going to do what he does. So I understand the business. He was doing what he felt was best for himself business-wise and personal-wise.

“And the team’s going to do the same thing as far as making trades or whatever, so I understand it, I’ve been around it; I don’t take anything personal. When we’re on the court, we’re teammates. Everything’s fine. And we depend on each other to do good things. There’s been nothing negative he’s done to me personally, so I’m fine.”

Later he more directly discussed Danny Green’s comments:

“The relationship was fine,” Curry said. “He wasn’t around. So I don’t know what [Green] meant by that. ‘Wasn’t cordial,’ I don’t know what that means, but the relationship was fine. He just wasn’t around so we didn’t see him a lot or we didn’t talk a lot. But as far as now, he’s on my [team]. I went to battle with him last year, we did a lot of good stuff and I’m going to go to war with who I’m going to go to war with and who’s on my team, so I’m looking forward to getting back out there with him and doing good stuff.”

Honestly, what is an apology from Ben Simmons going to do? He can apologize or not apologize, it’s not going to change how I feel about the guy. A Ben Simmons apology isn’t going to make me feel any better about the taxes I still have to do. It’s not going to make my rent any less. I’m going to continue to mentally prepare for March 10th and root against him forever. I’d still continue to feel a sense of validation every time he messes up and work on a spin zone when he succeeds like an adult. An apology would just be a waste of energy. We got James Harden in return without giving up major assets.

We’re good!

Though, I don’t agree with Seth Curry that ‘business is business’ and Simmons went about it the right way because of that. I believe you honor the contract you sign, whether it works in your favor or not, and there were 170 million reasons why the contract worked in Ben Simmons’ favor. You signed it and you should honor it. I can’t tell Crossing Broad I’m unhappy with my deal a month in and sit on the sidelines while Kyle Scott has to shovel more coal into the Content Machine because he’s back to being a one-man crew. Outperform your deal and come to the table and renegotiate once it’s time. That’s business.
