Let’s get it back to the Sixers with some draft intelligence from Jake Fischer:

The report was published at Marc Stein’s Substack, “The Stein Line.”

If you haven’t been paying much attention to the draft talk, Edgecombe is the Baylor guard. 6’5″, about 190 pounds, a 19 year old who won Big 12 Rookie of the Year. He was named All-Big 12 second team and has played internationally for the Bahamas, where he was born and raised before coming to the U.S. as a teenager.

The thing that stands about about Edgecombe is his athleticism. The guy has a highlight reel of sick plays on both ends of the floor, from thunderous dunks to great blocks and everything in between. He’s explosive and plays ferocious defense as well, both on the perimeter and at the rim where you don’t see guards often impact the game. He gets a lot of steals and seems to be a very smart and gritty type of high-motor player. He has a lot of those traits that play well in a city like Philadelphia.

Weaknesses? He’s still unpolished technique-wise, not the guy at this point in time to iso a defender and create his own shot. You feel like he has to improve his handle and body control to get better shots coming off the dribble. He feels like one of those players who is still learning how to use all of the physical gifts he has and grow into his body, if that makes any sense. Offensively, he’s not a pure shooter at this point in his career, but shot 34% from three and 78% from the foul line during his lone Baylor year. He got a lot better as the season went on, breaking out for 30 points against Kansas State and then having a stretch that included 21 and 28-point performances against BYU and Utah. Against Texas Tech and Duke, in the Big 12 Tournament and March Madness, he finished with 11/7/5 and 16/6/1 while shooting 10 for 25 from the floor, but he had 20+ point efforts against Houston and Arizona, buoyed by frequent trips to the foul line.

Of course, there’s the question of fit, and whether or not the backcourt is crowded with Maxey, Jared McCain, Edgecombe, and maybe Quentin Grimes. Good player though, does a lot of things well and the discussion really surrounds his offensive and shooting upside.
