The Iverson-Era jerseys are officially BACK and a slimmed down Joel Embiid as well:
God I love these! This makes me want to get in my dad’s Ford Windstar and head down to the First Union Center to watch Allen Iverson and the guys run through the East. The Sixers should bring back Marc Zumoff to call the game and Hip Hop to put on a dunk show the nights they wear these. Lets go all in on nostalgia:
Listen, I know some people who write for this site think the Iverson-Era jerseys are overrated and they’re wrong. They’re cool as shit. They’re simple. They’re gritty. They’re nostalgic. Sean Barnard said this:
I am willing to step to center stage and say what most are unwilling to say. These jerseys are objectively not good. Not only is black not even a color of the 76ers organization, but this is a simplistic design with bulky letters and little creativity.
If Iverson had never existed, no one would think twice about these uniforms. The 2000-01 NBA MVP could have worn anything on the floor and that uniform would be remembered in the same capacity. If Iverson walked out on the court in some threads from Goodwill, or wearing a straight up trash bag, you better believe there would have been Sixers fans following suit. This is much more of a compliment to the influence Iverson had than anything about the uniform itself.
Who cares what colors are in the Sixers logo? Black isn’t in the Eagles logo and people used to lose their minds when the Birds wore them.
Sure, they’d just be another jersey if Iverson never existed. You think the Yankees’ “NY” would be as popular as it is if they didn’t have 27 World Series Championships and if Derek Jeter, Babe Ruth, and Mickey Mantle never existed? Of course not. The Bulls jerseys wouldn’t be cool either if Michael Jordan quit to become an accountant after he was cut by the school basketball team. Same with the Lakers. No one talks about the Sixers’ 1991-1994 jerseys because that was a run of seasons under .500:
Live look at me the first night the Sixers wear these:
Wait. Where’s the Crypto.com patch?
