The Sixers Could Bring Back Spencer Hawes Because This Season Really Doesn’t Matter Anyway

Though they decided dumping him off to Cleveland in February was the best move for the team, reports suggest that the 76ers are “tracking” Spencer Hawes, with an eye towards possibly bringing him back to Philadelphia. They’re keeping a very loose eye on him apparently, but an eye nonetheless.
According to various sources, the Blazers, Cavaliers, Clippers, Suns, Rockets, and Mavericks also have their eyes on Hawes (even though he’s supposedly too pricey for the Clippers). The reported $8 million asking price would make Hawes the 2nd highest paid Sixer if he comes back for that money — it also nets him about $1.5 million more than he was set to make here last season. All that really matters here is if they want to bring Hawes back or not (and if he wants to come back), because $8 million is basically nothing against their cap room this year.
There is, of course, the chance that Hawes returns to Cleveland and is joined by Evan Turner, who the Cavs are apparently interested in. That scenario would also feature E.T. watching Andrew Wiggins grow into a great player, while looking back on his already disappointing career with sad eyes. So much flash and promise now empty, like a Ferrari that has run out of gas.
