We Got a Truman Show Reference from Kelly Oubre, who Declined to Provide Much Detail About Alleged Hit and Run Incident

Keith Pompey posted on Twitter what I think is the entirety of Kelly Oubre’s first media session since coming back from the rib injury he suffered in an alleged hit-and-run last month:

Oubre says he did indeed fracture the rib.

He’s asked what “actually happened that night,” and responds by saying:

“I’ve spoken to the police about this situation, and they have an ongoing investigation, so I’ve spoken to who I need to speak to about it and people with the way that it is, and I won’t be speaking on any details about that because they’re looking into it.”

In response to a follow up question about people not believing his story, Oubre said:

“This was and is a very traumatic situation for me and my family. So I just wish that my life wasn’t like The Truman Show, where everybody can kind of watch it and have their own opinion about my life. This is very hard for us to have to deal with, and (for) me to miss being on the court, which keeps me sane. A lot of people are very inconsiderate and insensitive to try to worry about video cameras and shit about something that happened with my life, and it’s very detrimental to me and missing time with my job. So yeah, I mean, I’m just really blessed that it wasn’t worse than what it is and that I’m able to come back to work and smile and walk and talk and breathe. That’s what I have to say about the conspiracy theorists, and I love them, too. Like, I sit there in my down time and look at them, not with my life, though.”

He brushes off a follow up question from KYW’s Mike DeNardo, about being new to town and possibly not knowing where he was when it happened. There isn’t much push for an answer beyond that.

Have to say, I’m impressed to hear a Truman Show reference from Oubre, who was three years old when the movie came out in 1998. Great movie! Second-best movie of 1998, behind Half Baked. I wanna talk to Samson!
