Saturday, September 1
Leicester City v Liverpool
Leicester City would have been the play here if Jamie Vardy was not still suspended. But he is. Take Liverpool to win at 2/5, and don’t be afraid to lay a goal at 11/10 (not pictured) — Liverpool could end up shellacking the Foxes in this one.
West Ham United v. Wolverhampton
West Ham have been atrocious this season, and the mood around the Olympic Stadium in London continues to be fairly toxic. It looks like this will be the season that finally sees the Hammers relegated. Meanwhile, Wolves held league champion Manchester City to a draw last week. They are the better team — take Wolverhampton to win at 9/5.
Manchester City v. Newcastle United
Speaking of City, they will be none too pleased to start the day two points behind four other clubs at the top of the table. And with Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all favored to win this weekend (Watford aren’t really title contenders), City can ill afford another slip-up against the Magpies. Fortunately for City, Newcastle are their typically disintegrating mess of a club. The manager thinks the club is headed for relegation. Everybody affiliated with the club hates the owner. Take the over on 3.5 goals. A score of 3-1 or 4-0 is pretty likely.
Sunday, September 2
Burnley v. Manchester United
It’s the resistable force against the movable object. Both of these clubs are off to nightmare starts. Burnley are already out of the Europa League. United are already dealing with rumours of Jose Mourinho potentially being sacked. Both of these teams could use a win, but what both of them really need is not to lose. Take the draw at 13/5.
Watford v. Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool have been the fashionable pick to pressure Manchester City for the league title, but nobody should be selling Spurs short. Not now, anyway. Mauricio Pochettino’s club is off to an unblemished start of their own, and there isn’t much about Watford that suggests they can take points from Harry Kane et al. Take Tottenham Hotspur to win at 6/10.
