The Oddsmakers are Disrespecting the St. Joe’s Hawks

Checking out the futures for the coming conference tournaments, and despite going in as the 3 seed, St. Joe’s is tied for fourth to win it at bet365:

  • St. Louis: +150
  • VCU: +160
  • Dayton: +650
  • George Washington: +1600
  • SJU: +1600
  • Davidson: +2200
  • George Mason: +2800
  • (bunch of long shots down here, including +30000 La Salle)

That’s a somewhat disrespectful number for the 21-10 Hawks, is it not? They’re on a six-game winning streak. They beat George Washington in February, beat Dayton in January, and played VCU really tough on the road.

Factor in, of course, Dayton, GW, and George Mason being on the St. Louis side of the bracket. The Hawks would likely have to go through Davidson and VCU to reach the final. They can beat both of those teams on a neutral floor.

Looking at other books, I see Saint Joe’s at +1100 at DraftKings. FanDuel actually has the Hawks at +1700 and BetMGM has ’em at +1200. Seems like the oddsmakers all over the plot trying to place St. Joe’s.

Honestly, I think the Hawks are worth a sprinkle at that disrespectful number. They’re doubting the Hawk, but the Hawk will never die.
