The Oklahoma Sooners Better Watch Out After Temple Makes Week 1 Statement in Amherst

Temple quarterback Evan Simon is the American’s offensive player of the week after carving up UMass to the tune of 19 for 25, 248 yards, six touchdowns, and zero turnovers. He slept in the practice facility this summer and might have to stay there in perpetuity:
“I think I’m gonna keep doing it (dorky laughter in the background).. sole mission is to win here, and I love football.”
Get this man a sleep number and some blackout curtains. Temple won a season opener for only the second time since the pandemic and they’ve got an FCS Howard team coming to Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday. Barring a putrid loss, they’re going to be 2-0 ahead of the week 3 matchup against Oklahoma, and they need to get revenge on Boomer Sooner for the 51-3 ass whooping they were handed in Norman last season. Forrest Brock was under center for that game, so it didn’t count.
On one hand, you can point out that Temple defeated the big, bad UMass Minutemen in Amherst, which was expected. UMass was a 2-10 team a year ago, and won three games the year prior. Temple should be beating MAC teams on the road if we’re to take them seriously in the K.C. Keeler era. So if you wanna crown the Owls, then crown their asses. But the reality is that the bar has been set so low for Temple football that we, the college football fans of the Delaware Valley, must celebrate any and all cherry and white achievements. They DRUBBED the Minutemen. It wasn’t even close. Simon looked much better than he did last season, really smooth and efficient out there. It was impressive, no matter the opponent.
We need something to believe in, so let’s enjoy good vibes around the Temple football program. We can go Negadelphia if they get their doors blown off by OU and Georgia Tech, then pick ourselves up for the conference slate.
For now, we’re feeling good about a 1-0 Temple football team.
