A viral moment on Thursday as this sideline shot from Piscataway made the rounds:

Turns out this is assistant strength and conditioning coach Mike Tufo. Of course he’s in the strength and conditioning department. Every college team has a strength guy right next to the head coach on the sidelines. They are typically uber-intense and go bonkers for any play, while doubling as the guy who pulls the coach back when he’s too close to the field and/or about to collide with the ref.

According to his bio, Tufo worked at Rutgers from 2005 to 2016, so he was part of Greg Schiano’s successful first run. That means he trained studs like Ray Rice, Brian Leonard, Kenny Britt, Tiquan Underwood, and the McCourty brothers. The halcyon days of Scarlet Knight football. The bio mentions that “Tufo also set a Guinness World Record for most pull-ups in 24 hours with 5,101,” which is incredible. Peak physical fitness right there. Looks like he did some bodybuilding back in the day, and competed in a number of competitions. He could also, possibly, go into the Guinness Book of World Records for highest-positioned bowl cut in America.

“Give me the Tufo.”

Rutgers held off Ohio to go 1-0. Keep chopping.
